Guinobatan is located at 123º35 57 49’ east longitude and 13º11’ 29 12 north latitude. It lies on the southern highlands of Albay Province, 532 kilometers south of Manila and about 23 kilometers east of the regional center, Legazpi City.
The municipality has a landlocked area of 20,300 hectares, 17,425.55 hectares or 85.84% of which is agricultural. From above, Guinobatan assumes a horn-shaped appearance whose long, thin strip of triangular land starts right from the northeastern side of the crater of Mayon Volcano and fans down southeast by the Municipality of Camalig; on the south by the Municipality of Jovellar; on the southwest by the Municipality of Pioduran (Malacbalac); and on the northwest by the City of Ligao. On the northeast, the town shares with Malilipot, Sto. Domingo, Daraga and Tabaco City and with the City of Legazpi, a common point in the crater of Mayon Volcano.
